Student Refugee Program (SRP)

The SRP has been run through WUSC National since 1978. Since then, more than 1,200 refugee students have been sponsored at 61 universities and colleges across the country.

The SRP was established at the University of Regina in 1982. We were one of the first universities on campus to run the SRP. In 1982, we sponsored our first student from El Salvador originally, living in asylum in Mexico. Since then, we have sponsored 49 students from: Afghanistan, Bhutan, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leon, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Uganda, and the Thai-Burma Borderlands.

The SRP is funded by a student levy each semester. With that money we are able to support the academic, financial, medical, physical, and spiritual needs of our sponsored students for one year. After this year, they are eligible for academic bursaries, and continue to be a part of of WUSC Regina community.

We are currently sponsoring 4 students from the Thai-Burma borderlands. Six of our sponsored students from previous years are still attending the UofR.314196_10152237905715183_785000621_ncropped-545421_10151117518513549_1965532384_n.jpg
